A few lessons learned

Day Two :Tuesday
The pictures only tell a little of today's story. The journey from Valcarlos to Roncesvalles is basically a long 12 km uphill slog to the pass at Ibanetz from memory 1070 m. It would have helpful for me to remember that I live at roughly 90m , I should have realised that altitude is a little different. Well after a while the snow started to fall, the wind to blow, and rain kilt on, carrying 30 pounds on my back things got a bit more tricky. My walking companions realised I was struggling a bit , yes I had red eye, dilated pupils... snack and fluids time. Water was taken regularly, but the Lion Bar gave a massive sugar burst, and slowly onwards sure enough summit crested. Then almost immediately Roncesvalles came into view. This brought forth a massive "Alleluia" - for it was not yet Lent. On arrival though pack off, the adrenaline stopped and I almost passed out. The staff member on welcoming duty was fabulous, he rang the medical centre in the next village who offered to see me straight away. He personally drove me down and introduced me in Spanish describing what he had noticed. I was amazed, I had bp check, sugar check and full ECG within 15 minutes of arrival. Fellow Europeans remember your EHIC cards! Fortunately my bp started to head downwards from sky high, apparently caused by exertion at altitude.

I was very thankful that I had been blessed by two supportive travelling companions, and 112 was averted, and I was allowed to continue.
Lessons
You are never fully prepared .
You need companions in life.
You need to listen to what others are telling you.
You must be grateful for small thoughtful gifts - thank you Paige for the Lion Bar, it saved me from a trip to hospital I think.
