Ruitelan to Alto do Poio

This day was always going to be a challenge. There was a small matter of 600 m to ascend, from the valley floor in Herrerias via La Faba after 3.4 km and Laguna de Castilla after 5.7 km. The latter had a cafe that was open, so cafe con leche and a

Kit Kat !  Onwards and indeed upwards to O'Cebreiro . Having climbed up through the trees and beyond the ground cover was now snow. Welcome to Galicia! Having made good time I stopped for more coffee. So far 3.5 hours to do arguably the toughest rise on the Camino after Valcarlos to Roncesvalles on day two. A further 8.6 km brought me via Alto San Roque to Alto do Poio and a pub / Albergue. The evening food was good. Galician soup followed by meat (home cut and stewed steak) and potatoes , a Walls ice cream and lashings of vino tinto for 8€. I even had a four legged companion thrown in for good measure. The food had a farmhouse feel to it, was warming on a cold night and just what I needed. For me, in terms of achievement today rocked.
