Sahagun at last

One of the joys of being a railway enthusiast is to be able to compare and contrast certain patterns. When I was younger Bodmin Parkway station in Cornwall was called Bodmin Road. It was a Great Western Railway tradition to call stations that were not quite where you think they are by names that suggest they might be. Bodmin Road is a classic example, it's about 4 miles from the centre of Bodmin uphill!

Burgos Rose de Lima Station is in that noble GWR tradition. So today I had a 5 km walk to catch my train to Sahagun. The photograph I have posted doesn't do it justice. It is a fine piece of contemporary architecture in its own right. It also had a restaurant where the menu del dia was €12.50 for which I had lasagne with lettuce side, bread roll, roast chicken leg and chips in a nice gravy sauce, a baked apple with cinnamon and water. ( I could have had wine) . All served to table. Such a difference to Birmingham New Street I thought.

The train arrived on time and I was soon on my way. The ticket inspector had a list of sold seats and was checking ticket numbers against the list. No brio squiggles on your ticket, just a polite, "gracias".

So now I have arrived at Sahagun. It is the half way point I am told and so I will be off to get my special stamp in the morning...
