Sarria
Well I enjoyed a lie in this morning as I await the arrival of walking reinforcements in the form of my lovely wife. I was able to do a little exploring. As with many Spanish towns, villages and hamlets I have walked through Sarria is built on a hill and the interesting bits are , you guessed it, uphill. So follow the yellow arrows and I pass the statue of a former Galician monarch and discover El Salvador church open. A simple beautiful place, with a simple stone altar and amazingly real votive candles. I say real because in my experience most votive candle stands are electric 10 cents a candle ones. In my personal opinion this can destroy the link between the living spirit filled and breathed prayer and the living flame burning sometimes well, sometimes faltering, like perhaps the prayer that inspired it.
I wonder who's efforts on your behalf you are particularly thankful for?
A little further up the hill was a viewpoint from which I could see most of modern Sarria. I could even make out the railway line in the distance. It was also possible to get another picture of the Gm2Lf bug on tour. Gm2Lf AGM was Wednesday so I was able to reflect on the amount of effort that goes into making pilgrims welcome here and the amazing efforts of the Gm2Lf team back home.
